OBJECTIVE: The Fashion Tech Hackathon project is committed to prepare youth & businesses to adopt new age technology through hackathons and experiential learning.
Textile and Fashion industry has the highest carbon footprint, India’s traditional hand spun KHADI and HANDLOOMS not only have very little environmental impact but are also deeply rooted into traditional culture and rich heritage. New developments like using SOLAR ENERGY in the SPINNING and WEAVING process, has further reduced the carbon footprint.

OUTCOME – We had over 300 participants who had attended the Bootcamp out of which 146 participants registered for the Hackathon. 25 teams submitted their ideas, out of which 16 teams were shortlisted and allowed to develop their ideas. After initial evaluation 15 shortlisted teams pitched their ideas for semi-finals. The semi finals were conducted on Nov. 29th and 6 teams have progressed to finals which will be held on 4th December, 2020. Over 25 webinar sessions were done from industry, academia and export organizations during this period.

It is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given place.

The importance of the Handicraft, Handloom, KHADI & Village Industry products in the national economy is well recognized. On account of having the advantage of flexibility of production in small batches, uniqueness, constant scope for innovation, eco friendliness, adaptability and, above all, the element of rich artistry, this sector has the potential to contribute towards export earnings in a big way. Therefore, export of Handicraft, Handloom, KHADI & Village Industry products has been identified as a “Thrust Area” for the overall development of the sector. The Government is exploring the possibility of making optimal use of the resources to enhance production capabilities of exportable Handicraft, Handloom, KHADI & Village Industry products.
